Sarah Hale Dress
INTERMEDIATE
By Thimbles and Acorns
Available in 18-inch and 16-inch doll sizes designed to fit American Girl®, A Girl for All Time®, Little Darlings, and Other Similarly Sized Dolls.
This 1830s dress features a crossed pleated bodice that is set in a narrow waistband. Fitted upper sleeves drop gracefully from the fashionably low shoulderlines. A full lower sleeve spills from the pleated edging of the upper sleeve and fastens at the wrist with a snapped cuff. The full skirt is pleated at the front and gathered in the back. The dress closes in the back with three buttons along the bodice and a snap at the waistband.
Our 1830-01 Gigot Sleeve Dress and 1830-02 Sarah Hale Dress patterns are part of our Designables series which means you can mix and match the sleeves, bodices, and skirts to create your own uniquely-styled dress. Watch for Pattern 1830-03 Beret Sleeve Dress pattern to add even more options to your design palette.
Susanna insists she needs this dress in case we get to Sturbridge Village or even to New Hamsphire to see the “Mary had a little lamb” house. Sarah Josepha Hale was a remarkable woman. She wrote poems, domestic advice manuals/cookbooks, edited a magazine and invented Thanksgiving as we know it. Thanks for bringing attention to one of my favorite people.

I so enjoyed making this dress for my MyLife doll. This was my first couture-style dress and it came out beautifully. I am very pleased. I had some trouble with the pleats on the bodice but that was on me not the pattern or directions. I enjoyed reading about Sarah Hale as well. Thank you for a beautiful pattern and I’m looking forward to making other dresses from Thimbles and Acorns pattern.
