Coonskin Cap

EASY

By Thimbles and Acorns

Available in one size designed to fit American Girl® and other similarly sized dolls

This iconic cap originated as a traditional Native American garment that was adopted by European trappers and frontiersmen. Oddly enough, the hat was never very popular because most colonists saw it as too uncivilized. Even the most famous frontiersman of the day, Daniel Boone, preferred to wear a wide brimmed felt hat. The heyday of the coonskin cap didn’t actually come until the 1950s, when Walt Disney ran it’s television series “Davy Crockett” immortalizing the folk hero in a coonskin cap.
This simple pattern is made with three pieces and requires no additional trims. A great beginners project and the ideal finish to any 1950s outfit in which you want to capture the spirit of the day.

This PDF sewing pattern is sized to fit American Girl® and other similarly sized dolls.
